Are you a clinic providing feeding therapy but unsure which foods to try first? Or are you a parent needing more guidance on which foods to give your child? This chart outlines nutritious foods to help with feeding therapy that will help with decreasing food aversions and increasing nutritional intake.
If your child has food selectivity due to texture sensitivity, here is a good place to start. The T-VANT (Table of Vitamins and Nutrients related to Texture) is a tool to guide you through increasing the amount of nutrient-dense foods in your child's diet. For example, if your child only likes crunchy foods but you suspect is low in iron, you can match the two and find multiple examples of foods to try to incorporate into your child's diet that are crunchy and also rich in iron. The back of this form also gives nutrient recommendations for your child based on their age and gender!
Food Sensitivity Testing
The Mediator Release Test (MRT) 170 is the most comprehensive food sensitivity test measuring the body's reaction to foods (170 foods & chemicals tested!) from an immune standpoint. This not only measures IgG (like most food sensitivity testing) but also IgA, IgM, and T-Cells that measures inflammation in the body. Contact me for pricing.
The SpectraCell Micronutrient Test measures long-term nutrient status inside the cells vs outside of the cells for 35 different nutrients. This is a better representation of nutrient status than traditional labs and will help us identify any nutrient deficiencies that could be contributing to behavior, cognition, or nutrient status.
They also offer a CardioMetabolic panel (helpful for heart disease/diabetes risk and prevention), an OmegaCheck to evaluate Omega-3, 6, and 9 status (highly recommend), hormone testing, thyroid panels, and genetic testing. Contact me for pricing.
GI-Map Microbiome Testing
GI-Map Microbial Assay Plus allows us to test gastrointestinal pathogens including bacteria, parasites and viruses that may be leading to GI symptoms, further exacerbating autistic symptoms. The GI-MAP also measures opportunistic organisms, normal flora, fungi, parasites and antibiotic resistance genes; the Plus refers to immunologic markers for GI health and function including SIgA, Elastase, Calprotectin and Anti-gliadin testing.
My recommended genetic testing is 23andMe. With their data, I am able to generate a report from PureGenomics to help individualize your child's supplement regimen based on their individual genes. This can help us find genes like MTHFR, COMT, and many others that can be addressed with nutrition therapy and supplements.
